SUMMARY:Intro to Twine
DESCRIPTION:Beginner’s Guide to Twine \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for this workshop on Sunday\, April 11th! This is a very very simply introduction video. The video is 2 mins in length and there is no sound. The video tells folks about Sunday’s event\, and shows a silent view of the Twine\, open source tool. There is no audio description.\n\n\n\nLearn about Twine\, the open source storytelling tool that can help you transition your story into a digital and interactive format. A basic show-and-tell session with an open Q&A session. \n\n\n\nStart Using Twine Now: https://twinery.org/ \n\n\n\nLearning Twine (an interactive story) [download] : This is an example story that we created and shared at our workshop using Twine (Harlowe format). The story shows the actual “markup code” that was used in every passage so you could duplicate this yourself if you wanted to test and try something out!

Thanks for everyone who joined us! \n\n\n\n• Archive of our live-discussions\, Q&As and link-sharing on our discord server: https://discord.gg/hKs9BK \n\n\n\n• Visit https://itch.io/jam/cyow-3 or look below and playthrough the projects! (Note: Invasion! is played on YouTube\, not itch.io) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGames from the CYOW 3: Apocalypse\n\n\nAwaken\nConnection\nDeath On Two Legs\nDeeper Into The Forest\nEnding Bravery\nEscape\nInvasion!\nOut With A Squeak\nQuest for Home\nRoad Warrior\nThe Broken Wasteland\nYA GOT STABBED: A Ruin Nation Interactive Fiction Survival Game\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLet’s make even (more) interactive narratives! We will use the theme APOCALYPSE to create interactive stories\, art\, and games during the month\, so mark your calendar for our 3rd narrative event where we create interactive stories/games together in the weeks leading up to our salon/show event on May 3rd. \n\n\n\nUpdate [covid-19]: This event soldiers on! While we won’t be hosting an in-person salon\, but we’ll still all be creating throughout the month of April\, hosting streaming workshops to keep you on track\, and lurking on discord to chat daily about your progress (or blocks). Final salon details are forthcoming (we’re setting up our itch.io hosting now)\, but keep working on your projects and mark your calendar for May 3rd! We’ll find a way to publish and share everything. Stay connected – stay home – stay safe. \n\n\n\nThis is our third interactive narrative event. For a feel for our previous events\, check out our CYOW archived events. \n\n\n\nThe theme that connects our work is APOCALYPSE\, but the format in which you present your interactive story is up to you. You can do a mini booklet\, a zine\, a Twine project\, a performance piece\, an RPG game\, an audio project\, or any other format you can think of! Work within the theme and then get it ready to share with a public audience on May 3rd at our salon. During the weeks leading up\, we invite you to use the hashtag #cyoaway as you document your process! \n\n\n\nDocumenting your process is very important to these events. Take photos\, share what you’re doing on our discord server\, tag us in your WIP posts. In the end\, we won’t turn away previously published work\, but we encourage you to try something new and at least want to see you still working on it during the month of April. Whether this means remixing an old project\, updating your writing on a published piece\, or simply adding more to a past CYOW project; it’s all welcome. But\, what we don’t want are completed past projects\, conveniently connected to the theme\, that have already had their time in the sun. It’s all about trying something new folks! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to participate: \n\n\n\nJust start making something! Never tried Interactive Fiction? You can find hundreds of different ideas and published games online. You can even check out the work we’ve produced at our previous events. As you work\, stay connected with us by sharing your process and tagging us or using the hashtag #cyow3 or/and #cyow2020. Take pictures and make notes as you work! Join us at a workshop\, on Discord or join our Facebook creators group! Once you’re ready to submit your project\, reach out to us at submissions@thepapercutarcade.ca \n\n\n\nAlready sent us an email? Then get your project up on Itch: https://itch.io/jam/cyow-3 \n\n\n\nOur application process for a CYOW (Choose Your Own Way) event is very informal. As long as you adhere to basic rules of respect and anti-oppression\, are willing to label any content that may be unsuitable for public/all-ages consumption\, and are willing to challenge yourself to produce work on theme with the event – we want you to participate. The jam days/workshops (which happen in the weeks leading up to the salon event) are optional. The final salon event (May 3rd) will showcase work that was produced! Our collective members reserve the right to review and approve all materials prior to their being presented at our public events. \n\n\n\nNot interested in showing your work\, but do want to participate in the lead-up workshops and the creative challenge? First time making interactive fiction? You are very welcome; we primarily work connected via Discord and Facebook messenger to bounce ideas and help each other. Also\, we do not require a FINISHED idea to show at our salon events. Work-in-progress is welcome. \n\n\n\nNotes: The Papercut Arcade defines *artist as a person who practices any of the various creative arts\, such as a sculptor\, photographer\, painter\, novelist\, poet\, or filmmaker. The keyword is practice; therefore\, if you make art or produce work with the intent of participating in a The Papercut Arcade challenge or exhibition\, you ARE an artist. \n\n\n\nCYOA = > CYOW: We had previously called these events CYOA in honour of our childhood love of Choose Your Own Adventure Gamebooks. They shaped who we are now as people. However; one of the original authors has since formed a new company and formalized a trademark with which they are going after indie game designers and publishers. Rather than deal with any of that (but still keeping in the spirit of the choose your own narrative adventure games)\, we’ve renamed our narrative events CYOW or Choose Your Own Way.

SUMMARY:Inedible Cakes
DESCRIPTION:Artshow & Salon: February 23rd\, 2020\n\n\n\n\n\nFeaturing art by: Louise Chow\, Christopher Alan Slater\, Kay Slater\, Heather Bell\, and perhaps you! Submit your piece today! \n\n\n\n\n\nOpen call for submissions deadline: February 16th\, 5PM\n\n\n\nOpen Call (see below). Now accepting applications. Send and other inquiries to submissions@thepapercutarcade.ca \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhether she said it or not\, Marie-Antoinette’s infamous quote “let them eat cake” has been used for everything from a call to arms for class revolution to ironic patisserie slogans. \n\n\n\nThese words have come to be associated with the naive\, the willfully ignorant\, the libertine\, and the apathetic. This event provides a place for us to come together to show\, discuss\, and contemplate our place in the class war – and we welcome your contributions and thoughts! \n\n\n\nShare your thoughts on “perfect” food\, sugar addiction\, diet shaming\, class inequality\, food for show\, access to food\, and more. What does the title “inedible cakes” meant to you?\n\n\n\nMaybe it means: A painting\, a photograph\, an illustration\, a dance\, a recipe\, a short story\, a sculpture\, or a poem. We’re open to your interpretations! \n\n\n\nThis salon/art show will feature an open call to artists* and creators. Non-collective members are invited to submit one project for consideration (in progress or final art\, writing or performance). Due to space constraints\, we’ll only accept one submission per artist* at a maximum framed size of 24 inches (width or length)\, or a sculptural piece with a max base diametre of 24″. Works on paper must be framed and all 2D work should be ready to hang (unless it is a booklet or reading material). For interactive submissions requiring technology\, artists and creators will be responsible for acquiring hardware and setting up their projects for the salon. Projects that incorporate food items (perishable or non-perishable) will need to be contained\, and cleaned up sustainably by the artist at the conclusion of the salon. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSend us your:\n\n\n\nYour name \n\n\n\nTitle of Work \n\n\n\nMedium/Materials \n\n\n\nSize (in inches) \n\n\n\nPrice  (or NFS if not for sale) \n\n\n\nPhone number or email \n\n\n\nA photo of the work (finished\, in progress\, or drafts are great). Send us this so we can approve you being in the show\, so work in progress is 100% welcome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSubmission deadline for consideration is Sunday February 16 at 5pm. Drop-off work to collective from February 17–20 (11am–5pm) – be sure to submit your jpg/write up in advance! DO NOT BRING IN YOUR ART UNLESS YOU’VE RECEIVED APPROVAL. Late submissions will not be accepted. \n\n\n\nWork can be submitted for sale or NFS. We are a small collective hosting a space to share\, but are not insuring any work. \n\n\n\nNote: The Papercut Arcade defines *artist as a person who practices any of the various creative arts\, such as a sculptor\, photographer\, painter\, novelist\, poet\, or filmmaker. The keyword is practice; therefore\, if you make art or produce work with the intent of participating in a The Papercut Arcade challenge or exhibition\, you ARE an artist.
